Using classic Outlook for Windows in business environments
Hi BP
According to Microsoft documentation, MailTips can be disabled from File > Options > Mail > MailTips Options by selecting Never display MailTips or by clearing specific MailTips. Since the setting is reverting to its default state aft r Outlook is restarted, this is not the expected behavior.
If you are an end user, I recommend contacting your organization's IT administrator first. In managed environments, Outlook settings may be controlled by organizational policies (such as Group Policy or Intune), which can override user preferences and restore MailTips settings after Outlook is restarted.
If you are the administrator, or if your IT team confirms that no policies are enforcing these settings, could you please let me know:
- Does the issue occur when Outlook is started in Safe Mode (
outlook.exe /safe)? - Does the behavior persist with a newly created Outlook profile? (Create an Outlook profile | Microsoft Support )
I also did some research, but I am not aware of any supported PowerShell command or registry setting that is specifically intended to keep a user's MailTips display preference disabled when Outlook reverts the setting after restart. MailTips can be configured at the Exchange organization level, but those settings primarily control MailTips availability rather than whether an individual user's Outlook preference is retained.
If the issue continues after testing with a new Outlook profile and Safe Mode, the behavior may require investigation by Microsoft Support, as it could be related to Outlook configuration persistence rather than the MailTips feature itself. For further instructions, you can follow this guide: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn.
I look forward to your update.
