I have a recovery key but it is not accepting it, is this due to attempting login excessively?

Hello SW,

I understand that you have forgotten the password, no longer have access to Microsoft Authenticator, and the recovery code is not being accepted. Please note that this is a user-to-user forum, so contributors cannot access the account or reset its security information.

Repeated sign-in or verification requests can temporarily block a verification method. Stop making further attempts for at least 24 hours, as repeated retries may extend the restriction. Then try the recovery code through the correct route:

  1. Start signing in to your Microsoft account and select Other ways to sign in.
  2. Select Use my password > Forgot password?
  3. Select Use a different verification option > I don’t have any of these.
  4. When asked Do you have an account recovery code?, enter the 25-digit code. Spaces, dashes, and capitalization are not required.

Only the most recently generated recovery code is valid. Creating a new code automatically invalidates any previous code. For details, see How to get and use a Microsoft account recovery code.

If the code is still rejected after the temporary restriction has cleared, use the Microsoft account Sign-in Helper to identify the available recovery path.

I hope this helps you regain access to the account.
