Estimated Availability of Durable Task Scheduler in West Europe Region

Hello,

I'm currently trying to deploy Azure Durable Task Scheduler, but during the deployment process I found that the service is not yet available in the West Europe region.

Could the Microsoft team provide any information regarding the expected timeline or roadmap for supporting Durable Task Scheduler in West Europe?

We are evaluating this service for production workloads, and understanding whether support is planned in the near future would help us make architectural and deployment decisions.

If there is no public ETA available, any guidance on:

  • Planned regional expansion for Durable Task Scheduler
  • Recommended alternative regions in Europe
  • Future availability announcements or roadmap references

would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

    Hi @William Sierra

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

At this time, Azure** Durable Task Scheduler (DTS) is not yet available in the West Europe region. Based on publicly available information from the Durable Task Scheduler team, Microsoft is actively working on expanding DTS to West Europe, but no public ETA or committed release date has been **announced. The most recent guidance from the product team is that West Europe support is planned, however availability timelines are not yet available. [github.com]

Refer below points for additional guidance:

    Planned** Regional **Expansion

    • Microsoft has confirmed that expansion to West** Europe is being actively worked on, but there is currently no published roadmap or **ETA for availability. [github.com]

    Recommended** Alternative **Region

      - The Durable Task Scheduler team has specifically recommended evaluating **North**** ****Europe** as an interim option, since it is the Azure paired region for West Europe and generally provides the closest regional alignment for European deployments. [[github.com]](https://github.com/Azure/Durable-Task-Scheduler/issues/29)

      **Migration**** ****Considerations**

         - If you deploy DTS in another region today and later migrate to West Europe when it becomes available, you would need to:

               - Create a new DTS scheduler in the target region.

                     - Update your application configuration/connection settings.

                           - Plan for orchestration state migration, as existing in-flight orchestration state does not automatically move between schedulers. [[github.com]](https://github.com/Azure/Durable-Task-Scheduler/issues/29)

    1. How** to Verify Current Region **Availability
      • Microsoft recommends checking the currently supported DTS regions using Azure CLI:
az provider show --namespace Microsoft.DurableTask \
              --query "resourceTypes[?resourceType=='schedulers'].locations | [0]" \
              --out table

This will return the latest list of supported regions for Durable Task Scheduler. [Durable Ta...soft Learn | Learn.Microsoft.com] Future** **Announcements
        • Future region rollouts are typically announced through:
          - Microsoft Learn documentation

                - Azure Updates

                      - Azure Product Availability by Region pages

                            - Durable Task Scheduler release announcements and blog posts [[azure.microsoft.com]](https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/explore/global-infrastructure/products-by-region/table), [[Durable Ta...soft Learn | Learn.Microsoft.com]](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/durable-task/scheduler/durable-task-scheduler)

Summary: There is currently no** public ETA for West Europe, but Microsoft has stated that the region is on the expansion roadmap. Until then, North **Europe is the recommended European region for evaluating and running Durable Task Scheduler workloads.

    Hi William Sierra,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A,

This isn't a Durable Task Scheduler-specific gap. It's the general Azure capacity restriction currently in place on West Europe: new tenants without existing resources there get blocked with "The selected region is currently not accepting new customers" (or RequestDisallowedByAzure). The same restriction has affected Azure AI Search, Synapse, and Azure SQL Database in West Europe, so this is a known, cross-service issue, not something specific to DTS.

    Next steps:

    1. Confirm DTS region support for your subscription: az provider show --namespace Microsoft.DurableTask --query "resourceTypes[?resourceType=='schedulers'].locations | [0]" --out table
    2. For production now, deploy in Sweden Central. Microsoft has confirmed it currently has the highest data center capacity in the region and is the recommended first alternative when West Europe is restricted. North Europe is the second option.
    3. If you already have resources deployed in West Europe under this subscription, or have a genuine data residency requirement, file a support request: Support request → "Service and subscription limits (quotas)" → Quota type: "Unable to access West Europe region."

There's no published DTS-specific regional roadmap. Region availability for DTS follows the same general Azure capacity policy above, not a separate service roadmap.
