Welcome Jim Vaughan,
I understand how frustrating it can be when you have no audio when using Zoom or Teams and are also unable to record videos with your microphone.
To better understand your situation:
- Are you using the built-in microphone or an external USB/Bluetooth headset?
- Which Windows version and build are you currently running?
Building on the earlier suggestions, you might also consider the following options:
Option 1: Check the default recording device
- Press Windows + R, type
mmsys.cpl, and press Enter - Select the Recording tab
- Verify the correct microphone is set as Default Device
Option 2: Test microphone input
- Go to Settings > System > Sound
- Under Input, select your microphone
- Use Start test and check whether input is detected
Option 3: Run the Recording Audio troubleshooter
- Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters
- Run Recording Audio
Option 4: Reinstall the audio input driver
- Open Device Manager
- Expand Audio inputs and outputs
- Right-click the microphone device and select Uninstall device
- Restart the PC
I hope the steps above help you deal with your issue.
