SSD randomly spiking to 100% Disk space then going back down Windows 11

A couple days ago I went to go play Marvel Rivals and double clicked the game to open, now my computer has been slow at loading ever since. Everything was completely normal before this incident, my games ran fine, my rivals ran fine.

Small things like signing in, launching apps, chrome browsers have all been slow since then and I don't know why. When I play Marvel Rivals sometimes it works fine, and other times my disk spikes up to 100% then the game crashes. Outside of the game, it still spikes to 100% every now and then, which slows my comptuer down by a lot.

Checking the processes also doesn't show anything related to disk, regardless when its at 100% in performance.Screenshot 2026-07-21 140804

    1. No errors for chkdsk C: scan
    2. No errors for DISM and /scannow
    3. No specific management tool, but CrystalDiskInfo said its healthy ~90%
    4. 1TB QLC SATA SSD, Marvel Rivals is installed on my 500gb E: drive, which works fine, and the slowdown happened instantly as I launched marvel rivals a couple days ago.

    Hi Marshal,

I understand that your PC was working normally before this started, and now you are seeing intermittent SSD active-time spikes to 100%, slow application launches, and occasional Marvel Rivals crashes.

From the screenshots, I can see that Disk 0 (the SATA SSD containing Windows) reaches very high active time while the actual read/write throughput remains relatively low, and CrystalDiskMark results appear normal for a SATA SSD. This can sometimes indicate storage-related delays, driver issues, file system corruption, or SSD health problems rather than a lack of SSD performance.

As a first step, please try the following:

1, Open Command Prompt (Admin) and run: chkdsk C: /scan

Let me know if any file system errors are reported.

2, In the same elevated Command Prompt, run:

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    sfc /scannow

Please share the final results of both commands.

3, Check the SSD's SMART health information

If the SSD manufacturer provides a management tool (such as Samsung Magician, Crucial Storage Executive, WD Dashboard, etc.), please check whether the drive reports any warnings, critical errors, or firmware updates.

    4, Please provide:

    • The SSD model number shown in Device Manager or the manufacturer's utility.
    • Whether Marvel Rivals is installed on Disk 0 (C:), Disk 1 (D:), or Disk 2 (E:).
    • Whether the slowdowns began immediately after a game update, Windows update, or an unexpected shutdown.
