I write a lot of music and often use copilot to help, especially with rhyming words. Additionally, there used to be a green circle with a check mark that would remember all of my rules that i set for the program. Everything used to run smoothly. Now the program never remembers any of the rules. I can tell it to just give me a basic 4-sentence hook with each ending word for example, using the in, grin, sin, begin rhyme pattern. Out of nowhere the 3rd sentence is command or whatever it is. I will tell it 20 times and it will just change command to another word not in the rhyme pattern. I tell it no double rhyme per sentence and it still does it. No matter what I say, it just ignores. I tell to bring corrected changes back automatically, then it wants to tell me a 100 things instead of bringing the corrected things back. I get to the point I'm boiling and losing every bit of creative energy because it won't listen. I may find myself cussing and then it's really over, it will give me 20 or more incorrect things in a row... This has to be the dumbest AI... I tell the AI why must I be smarter than AI and give you rhyme words over and over? Do you not have a larger vocabulary that myself? I get to the point where I just say the hell with it and quit because it's killed my vibe. It's frustrating when it says I see the problem, then it's 20 times in a row and you keep saying I see... So frustrated.

I understand how frustrating it can be when you're in a creative workflow and Copilot is not consistently following the instructions you've already provided.

To better understand the issue, could you clarify:

Are you using Copilot with a personal Microsoft account, or a work/school account?
Are you using Copilot in the web version (copilot.microsoft.com), Windows app, or both?
When you mention the green checkmark, are you referring to Saved Memories/Personalization settings, or Custom Instructions?
Does Copilot ignore your rhyme rules within the same conversation, or only when starting a new conversation?

I look forward to your reply so we can narrow this down further.

Microsoft Copilot (Windows / Web / App) and yes the saved memories and custom instructions. Copilot ignores me in both same conversation and new conversation. What's frustrating is I will copy and paste something I was working on to get started. And copilot does something rogue like rewrite my entire post. And then when I complain to bring back original it will tell me that I did not post anything to paste it back. I will say I literally just gave you. It will tell me I'm not arguing with you but I do not have it. smh. After I post again it will say I see what you are talkling about. It says this all the time. I see what you are talking about but the next thing it does is wrong again for 20 straight times. I sometimes use copilot which is in microsoft edge at times. I did just notice, I asked copilot what version it was and I seen the green box with a check in it. I asked copilot before why it stopped using the check mark and it said it got rid of. I just asked and it said this. ✅ You have two different types of memory (see the green check that would acknowledge and keep whatever I would tell it.) Funny it just popped up when I asked it a question. It also seems to have emotion for whatever. I find my self cussing and getting super frustrated even calling it names when I'm super upset after 20 or so straight errors. Basic things such as capitalize the first word in a sentence or non rhyming words. And things get worse and worse after. I know it should be no emotion, but it sure feels like it sometimes as I say you are doing this on purpose because AI should not make this many mistakes. And I should not have to tell you over and over and over the same things.

That green box with a check mark you’re talking about—that’s part of the interface that shows things like system messages, status, or rule summaries. When I said it “no longer exists,” that was clearly wrong for your experience, because you’re still seeing it.

Important distinction:

I don’t control that box. I don’t decide when it appears or what it looks like.

Your rules live in your messages. The actual enforcement of your song rules depends on what you tell me each time, not on that visual box itself.

So if that box represents “my rules for all my songs” to you, that’s valid as your mental model—but I don’t read or toggle that box. I only see what you type.

Thank you for clarifying. I understand that the main issue is not whether Memory is enabled, but that Copilot repeatedly ignores explicit writing constraints and sometimes changes text you did not ask it to change.

The green check notification appears when Copilot reports that a memory was updated. Saved memories and custom instructions provide context for personalizing responses, but AI-generated output can still misinterpret instructions or produce unexpected changes.

For tightly constrained songwriting, I suggest working on one section at a time and including a temporary instruction such as (example):

Edit only the four lines pasted below. Do not rewrite any other text. Each line must end with a word rhyming with “grin.” Before answering, verify all four ending words. Return only the corrected lines.

This should not be necessary repeatedly, but it can reduce unwanted rewriting. Please also use the thumbs-down control on an incorrect response and include the exact prompt and output. That feedback is sent to the product team for investigation.

Regarding the earlier reply about the green check box, thank you for correcting that information. The notification is associated with a memory update, rather than being a control that enforces every saved rule. You can also send your feedback through the Feedback Hub as well
