Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Hi WIll Walter,
I understand that a passkey was removed, and an unfamiliar verification app was added to the affected Microsoft account without authorization.
Please note that this is a user-to-user forum, so contributors cannot access the account, review private account information, or arrange a phone call with Microsoft Support.
It is not clear whether the affected account can still be accessed. Could you confirm whether you can still sign in to that account?
If the affected account can still be accessed, the account owner should act immediately:
- Run a full security scan on the device used with the account.
- Open the Microsoft account Security page, select Manage how I sign in, and review all sign-in methods.
- Add a verification method controlled by the account owner before removing the unfamiliar verification app or passkey.
- Change the account password to a new and unique password.
If the account cannot be accessed, open How to recover a hacked or compromised Microsoft account and select Start to use the Sign-in Helper.
To request assistance from Microsoft Support:
- Visit the Microsoft Support contact page: Contact - Microsoft Support
- In the search bar provided on the page, type "Account Recovery" and press Enter.
- Click on the "Get Help" button that appears.
- Scroll down the page until you see and click on the "Contact Support" option.
- When prompted to select your product or service, choose "Other Products".
- For the category, choose "Manage Account Security".
- Look for and click on "Chat with a support agent in your web browser".
- When prompted, provide a valid contact email where Microsoft can reach you regarding your case.
- Explain your situation clearly: Be concise but provide all the relevant details.
Support options may vary by region, availability, and sign-in status. Support agents must follow account-ownership verification requirements and cannot directly change account details or send password-reset links.
Please do not post screenshots containing email addresses, verification codes, recovery details, purchase information, or other private account information in this public thread.
I hope the affected account can be secured or recovered through the appropriate option above.
