SharePoint Online does not provide a native browser-based preview experience for .ICS (iCalendar) files. When users access an .ICS file stored in a SharePoint document library, the file is downloaded and then opened by the associated calendar application (such as Outlook). As a result, the download step cannot be removed through SharePoint settings.
There is currently no supported SharePoint configuration that allows an .ICS file stored in a document library to open directly in a web-based invitation viewer with a Save/Add to Calendar button.
Since this functionality is not currently available in SharePoint Online, if this capability would benefit your organization, you may submit feedback through the Microsoft Feedback Portal. This helps the product team understand customer demand and consider it for future development. SharePoint · Community
