Troubleshooting website display or functionality issues in Edge on Windows 11
Hi steven reszegi,
Thank you for reaching out. Based on your description, it sounds like Microsoft Edge or Windows Security has detected Adware:Win32. While that can be alarming, the detection itself often means that Microsoft Defender has already identified a potentially unwanted program and taken action to block or quarantine it.
I recommend starting by opening Windows Security and going to Virus & threat protection > Protection history. Check whether the Adware:Win32 detection is listed there. If it is, select the item and choose Remove or Quarantine if those options are available.
After that, run a Full scan by navigating to Virus & threat protection > Scan options > Full scan. If the threat continues to reappear, run a Microsoft Defender Offline scan from the same page. This scan runs before Windows fully loads and can help remove threats that are more difficult to detect during normal operation.
Since the warning appears to be related to Microsoft Edge, I also suggest reviewing your installed extensions. Open Edge and go to edge://extensions, then remove any extensions that you do not recognize or no longer use. If the issue persists, you can reset Edge by going to Settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to their default values. Please note that this will reset your startup page, new tab page, search engine, pinned tabs and disable extensions, but it will not delete your favorites, browsing history or saved passwords.
To better understand what was detected, could you please share the exact threat name shown in Protection History? It would also be helpful to know whether the warning appeared while visiting a website or downloading a file. If possible, kindly share a screenshot of the detection message.
Please let me know the results of these steps and I'll be happy to review them and assist further.
