During my full system scan run thru Microsoft Security panel the scan stopped with quarantine fail message identifying the offending file as Trojon:Win32/SparkOnSoft.A!MTB and identified an affected file as one of my download PDF. I am eighty one years old and not tech sauvy so could someone send me instructions how I can remove this bug. I am able to mostly navigate without an issue but as I am warned by Microsoft that this bug could pose a problem so any help will be highly appreciated in removing this virus.

thanks

    Hi Yousuf Naqvi

I understand how concerning it can be to see a malware warning, especially when Microsoft Defender reports that it could not quarantine the file. The good news is that if Defender has identified the file, and since it appears to be a PDF, removing it is usually straightforward even for casual user:

1 - Delete the PDF file manually

    • Open File Explorer and go to your Downloads folder > find the PDF file
    • Right-click the file > hold Shift > click Delete > select Yes (if prompted)
    • Run another Full Scan in Windows Security to confirm the threat is gone.

2 - Remove it using Protection History

    • Open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection
    • Click Protection history > find Trojan:Win32/SparkOnSoft.A!MTB
    • Expand the dropdown > select if Remove is available > follow the prompts.

3 - Run a Microsoft Defender Offline Scan

    • If the file cannot be deleted normally or still reported.
    • Open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Current threats
    • Click Scan options > select Microsoft Defender Offline scan > click Scan now
    • Your computer will restart and perform a deeper malware scan before Windows loads.

If you are unsure which PDF file was detected, please check the Trojan detection entry in Protection history (the full path, e.g. something like C:\Users\YourName\Downloads\filename.pdf). You can also share a screenshot here (after removing all your personal information) if you don't know exactly what something mean.

I was able to delete the offending files and I followed the steps you prescribed. Last two system scans were clean so thanks to you and your supporting staff for the timely assistance.
