[MCT Benefit] Active MCT Tenant wrongly flagged as Trial-only 300GB causing Read-Only lockout

Dear Microsoft Support / MCT Program Team,

I am writing to request urgent assistance regarding a storage lockout issue on my Microsoft 365 Developer Tenant provided under my active Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) benefits.

1. Account & Subscription Details:

  • MCT Status: Active (Recently renewed)
  • Tenant Domain: <PII removed>.onmicrosoft.com
  • Subscription Name: Microsoft 365 E5 Developer (without Windows and Audio Conferencing) Trial / MCT Benefit

2. Issue Description: Recently, my Developer Tenant was suddenly restricted to a Read-Only state with the error message:

"Your organization's storage is full. SharePoint sites are read-only right now."

Upon checking the SharePoint Admin Center, the system displays a banner stating:

"Your pooled storage is 2.34 TB over the limit and your trial will end on August 1, 2026... Trial-only tenants are limited to 30 days and 300GB of pooled storage."

3. Impact & Clarification:

  • As an active MCT who recently renewed my MCT membership (150$ fee paid already), this tenant was provisioned as part of my ongoing MCT/Visual Studio Developer benefits for training, labs, and demonstration purposes.

The system appears to have incorrectly converted or flagged this active MCT Developer Benefit Tenant as a standard "Trial-only Tenant" with a strict 300 GB pooled storage cap.

Because I have legitimate lab data stored on this tenant, this sudden 300 GB restriction has locked the entire organization in Read-Only mode, preventing me from creating new users, assigning available E5 licenses (out of 25 available), or conducting lab exercises.

4. Requested Resolution:

Please review my MCT benefit status and re-evaluate the storage policy/tier applied to my tenant.

Please remove the "Trial-only 300GB" restriction flag from my organization.

Help recalculate or restore the standard E5 Developer storage allocation so that the tenant returns to normal Read/Write status for my training and lab work.

I have attached screenshots of my Licenses page, SharePoint Active Sites storage metric, and the error banners for your reference.

Looking forward to your prompt response and assistance.

    Hi everyone,

Based on the current Microsoft 365 Developer Program FAQ, Microsoft recently updated the published storage guidance for Developer Program tenants. The documentation now states that Developer-only tenants are capped at 300 GB pooled storage.

From my perspective, this appears to be a change in Microsoft's published Developer Program storage policy. As a result, every Microsoft 365 Developer Program tenant is expected to be subject to these Developer Program storage limits, regardless of when the tenant was created or whether it was obtained through Visual Studio Enterprise, MCT benefits, or another qualifying program.

Since this is a user-to-user community forum, we cannot verify tenant-specific exceptions or review Microsoft's backend provisioning records. Based on the currently published documentation, the expected storage entitlement for a Microsoft 365 Developer Program tenant is 300 GB pooled tenant storage.

If you believe your tenant should have a different entitlement, you will need to contact the support channel associated with the benefit under which the tenant was provisioned for confirmation. However, the current Developer Program FAQ reflects the 300 GB storage limit for Developer Program tenants.

I also have the same issue with the maximum amount of 300GB pooled. I've lowered my amount to under 300GB, but still have it in a read only mode.

However my license comes from a Visual studio Enterprise license connected to my tenant.

    Hi @Quan Le Nguyen

Please note that we're not Microsoft Support, this is a user-to-user community forum. Moderators here don't have access to your environment or Microsoft's backend systems, so we can only provide guidance based on public documentation and community experience. And since this is a public platform, and we will modify your question to hide your personal information in the description. Kindly ensure that you hide any personal or organizational information the next time you post an error or other details to protect personal data.

Based on the screenshot, the tenant currently appears to be assigned a Microsoft 365 E5 Developer (without Windows and Audio Conferencing) Trial subscription. Current Microsoft documentation states that Microsoft 365 Developer subscriptions may be subject to a 300 GB pooled storage limit, so developer tenants that exceed available storage can enter a read-only state.

While you indicated that the tenant is associated with active MCT benefits, forum members cannot verify from the screenshots whether the tenant's current entitlement is correct, whether any recent licensing or benefit changes occurred, or whether the tenant should qualify for a different storage allocation. Those details can only be reviewed by Microsoft through the appropriate MCT, Visual Studio Subscription, or Microsoft support channels.

I therefore recommend contacting the support channel associated with your MCT benefits as @Julian Sharp mentioned and providing the screenshots, tenant information, and proof of active MCT status so they can verify whether the current subscription and storage entitlement are expected for your tenant.

    Thank you for your understanding.
