We received an email requesting us to update our payment method. When logged into the Microsoft 365 Admin Center to change the payment of method, I do not see the payment method listed in the email we received. I tried calling and only received instructions to go to another website which was the same information I had already read in trying to change the method of payment. Please advise what we should do? Also, One of our admin sees our type as MCA and I see our type as MOSA, why would two different people under the same business have different types.

Hi Bobbie,

Based on your sharing, I suspect this can be a phishing billing email since Microsoft 365 Admin Center is the main and only place to verify and manage business payment methods. If the instructions require you to go to another website outside Microsoft 365 Admin Center, this is a sign of a phishing lures, and I highly recommend you must not use any link or phone number from that email.

For the best next step in this situation, I recommend contacting the Microsoft Billing support team, as they have the necessary access to review details like your billing profile, subscriptions, and payment methods of your account. They also have the appropriate tools and access to securely review your account, investigate the charges, notification/billings emails, etc.

To contact Microsoft Billing Support:

  • Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center using your administrator account.
  • Select Help & Support (bottom-right corner).
  • Describe your request as most detailed as possible, for example: "I am received an email asking to update payment method but it's not visible in our Admin Center"
  • Select Contact Support and choose your preferred contact method (chat or phone).

About the problem that one admin sees MCA and you see MOSA, this can still happen in some conditions:

  • Your tenant has more than one billing account since Microsoft supports multiple billing accounts per organization. One admin can be default to an MCA account while you are default to a MOSA account.
  • You and the other admin may have different billing permissions. MCA needs a Billing account or Billing profile owner/contributor to manage payment methods, while MOSE requires at least a Billing administrator.

In short, this behavior could basically mean that your organization has multiple billing accounts or the difference of your role visibility.

Hope this information would be helpful for your concern. If you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out again in the comments on this post. I'm happy to assist you further

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. I'm looking forward to your reply.
