The quick repair option when clicking that 'Repair Now' button on that error dialog rarely resolves the problem.

    1

The best option is to perform a full online repair of your Office installation.

Open the Settings App (gear icon on your Start Menu)

Go to Apps - Installed, then scroll down to find Microsoft 365 (Office).

Select that and choose Modify - Online Repair

That should fix any issues with your Office Installation.

    2

If that does not resolve the problem, completely uninstall Microsoft 365 (Office), then restart your PC and go to your Microsoft account on this link to download and reinstall Office.

The error message you’re seeing (“Word has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly”) usually appears when Office components fail to load or when the installation becomes corrupted after an update.

Here are a few steps you can try to get Office 2024 Home working again:

    1. Run the Office Repair tool If “Repair Now” doesn’t resolve it, try the full repair from Windows: Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Microsoft Office → Modify → choose Online Repair. This performs a deeper rebuild of the Office installation.

    2. Check for pending Windows updates Sometimes Office errors appear when Windows components are partially updated. Go to Windows Update and install all pending updates, then restart the PC.

    3. Reset Office activation Open any Office app → Account → Sign out → restart → sign in again with the correct Microsoft account. Activation issues can also trigger this error.

    4. Clear Office cache Close all Office apps and delete the folder: %localappdata%\Microsoft\Office\16.0\OfficeFileCache Office will recreate it automatically.

    5. Reinstall Office 2024 Home If the issue continues, uninstall Office completely, restart the device, and reinstall it from your Microsoft account at: https://account.microsoft.com/services

These steps usually resolve the “Word needs to be closed” error when the installation becomes corrupted.
