A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
When a Microsoft account becomes locked during a OneDrive sync conflict, it usually means the system detected unusual activity or repeated sign‑in attempts. Changing the password is only the first step — the account will remain locked until the security verification is completed.
Here are the steps you can follow to unlock the account and address the OneDrive data loss:
1. Unlock the account using the official recovery page Go to: https://account.live.com/acsr Sign in with the affected account and complete the identity verification (SMS/email code). This is required even if you already changed the password.
2. Check the OneDrive “Recycle bin” for deleted files After you regain access, open OneDrive online: https://onedrive.live.com On the left side, select Recycle bin. Files deleted during sync conflicts are often stored there for 30 days.
3. Check the “Restore your OneDrive” feature If many files were removed at once, you can use: OneDrive online → Settings → Options → Restore your OneDrive Choose July 21, 2026 as the restore point. This will revert the entire OneDrive to the state before the deletion.
4. University vs personal OneDrive conflict Syncing two different tenants (personal + education) can cause file redirection issues. After restoring your data, make sure only one OneDrive account is connected to the same folder path.
If the account remains locked even after verification, you may need to contact Microsoft Support directly, because only support can manually unlock an account when automated recovery fails.
Let us know if the recovery steps work for you.
