I am having multiple issues with MS Teams

I am a Microsoft 365 Premium subscriber. I recently learned that my subscription does not allow me to setup Teams meetings within Outlook even though a sign-in icon appears in the ribbon bar. Okay...

Today, I launched a Teams meeting from my Outlook calendar. After clicking on the link, a Teams "Join Conversation" page is opened in Edge with two options; "Continue using this browser" and "Join on the Teams App", while at the same time opening a Microsoft Teams meeting window. The window appears as you would expect but when I click the "Join Now" button, the Teams window is replaced with a window saying "Join without an account" even though the prior window presented my account ID. Clicking on Join without an account then had me identify myself and the person who created the invite said that I appear as "unverified". Furthermore, I was unable to see the other persons camera or myself in my camera view. Disconnecting and reconnecting I went through the same steps with the exact same issues.

Are these all limitations of the personal Teams subscriptions or do I need to address something within Teams/Windows 11?

Replying to the questions below. I have not yet had a chance to try the multiple suggestions but will today.

    • Are you using Microsoft Teams Free/personal, or a Microsoft Teams work or school account? Personal, yes. Free, no.
    • Was the meeting invitation sent to the exact Microsoft account you used to sign in to Teams? Yes
    • Does your camera work in the Windows Camera app? Yes
    • Does the meeting work correctly if you select Continue on this browser in Edge or Chrome? Tried Edge and experienced similar issues. Did not try Chrome.

I have had the authentication issues in the past but not the blank screens from both my camera and the other attendees camera.

I have had no issues like this with Google Meet though admittedly, it uses a browser and not a local app.

    Hi Albert Rees

Please reply with these details so the issue can be narrowed down:

    • Are you using Microsoft Teams Free/personal, or a Microsoft Teams work or school account?
    • Was the meeting invitation sent to the exact Microsoft account you used to sign in to Teams?
    • Does your camera work in the Windows Camera app?
    • Does the meeting work correctly if you select Continue on this browser in Edge or Chrome?

    Also try the following steps:

    1) Join after signing in to Teams first

    Before clicking the meeting link:

    • Fully close Teams and Outlook.
    • Open Microsoft Teams first.
    • Sign in with the same Microsoft account that received the meeting invitation.
    • Confirm your profile picture or account name appears in Teams.
    • Then open the meeting link again and choose Join on the Teams app.

If Teams still changes to Join without an account, sign out of Teams and Edge, restart the PC, then sign back in to Teams first before using the meeting link again.

    2) If the meeting asks for verification, use the same email address that received the invite

If the organizer’s meeting settings require verification:

    • Select the option to verify by email, if offered.
    • Enter the same email address where the meeting invitation was sent.
    • Enter the one-time passcode.
    • Join again.

    3) Test whether this is caused by account or browser-session confusion in Edge

Because the link opens Edge and the Teams app at the same time, cached sign-in sessions may be confusing the join flow.

    Try this:

    • Open Microsoft Edge.
    • Sign out of Teams on the web and any extra Microsoft accounts.
    • Open an InPrivate window.
    • Paste the meeting link there.
    • Choose Join on the Teams app.
    • If prompted, sign in with the Microsoft account that received the invitation.

If this works, the issue is likely caused by a saved browser session or a different Microsoft account being used in the normal browser window.

    4) Check the camera permission in Windows 11

    For the camera issue:

    • Go to Windows Settings > Privacy & security > Camera.
    • Turn on Camera access.
    • Turn on Let apps access your camera.
    • Also make sure Let desktop apps access your camera is enabled.
    • Close any app that may already be using the camera, such as Zoom, Skype, the Windows Camera app, or another browser tab.
    • Restart Teams and test again.

    5) Select the correct camera inside Teams

    In Teams:

    • Select Settings and more.
    • Go to Settings > Devices.
    • Under Camera, select the correct camera.
    • Check whether the camera preview appears before joining.
    • If the preview is black, switch to another camera option if one is listed.

If the camera works in the Windows Camera app but not in Teams, update Teams and Windows, then restart the device. If the camera still fails, see camera troubleshooting is here: Camera doesn't work in Windows | Microsoft Support

    6) Use browser join as a temporary workaround

If the Teams app keeps joining you as without an account, or if the camera does not work in the app:

    • Open the meeting link in Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.
    • Choose Continue on this browser.
    • Allow camera and microphone permissions when prompted.
    • Join the meeting from the browser.

    7) About scheduling Teams meetings from Outlook

For Outlook scheduling, the Teams Meeting add-in has specific requirements. Teams Meeting add-in requires supported Outlook, the Teams desktop client, and the correct account/license setup. For the Teams Meeting add-in,  an Exchange mailbox is required for the meeting organizer.

Also, the new Outlook for Windows does not use the classic Teams COM add-in. It uses native Teams meeting capability instead.

    References:

If you are using a personal Microsoft account rather than a Microsoft 365 work or school account, please create the meeting directly in Teams, then copy and send the meeting link from Outlook instead of relying on the classic Outlook Teams add-in.

Please tell me how it goes. If the problem persists, please don’t hesitate to reply to this thread and I will be happy to help. Have a lovely day!
