Welcome Sierra G,
I understand how frustrating it can be when Snipping Tool screen recording is only saving less than a second of black screen with no audio, even after restarting the PC, checking for updates, and freeing up storage space.
Before proceeding, could you please clarify:
- Which Windows 11 version and OS build are you currently using?
- Does this happen with every application you try to record, or only during your online course application/browser?
In the meantime, you can try these steps below to troubleshoot the issue:
Option 1: Repair and reset Snipping Tool
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps
- Find Snipping Tool
- Select Advanced options
- Click Repair
- If the issue persists, click Reset
Option 2: Check microphone permissions
- Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone
- Make sure Microphone access is turned on
- Confirm Snipping Tool is allowed to access the microphone
Option 3: Run the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter
- Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters
- Run Windows Store Apps
Option 4: Reinstall Snipping Tool
- Uninstall Snipping Tool from Settings > Apps > Installed apps
- Open Microsoft Store
- Install the latest version of Snipping Tool
Option 5: Check for corrupted system files
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator
- Run:
-
sfc /scannow -
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
-
I hope the steps above help you deal with your issue.
