Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
Hi, mark gerold
This 0x0 error is a known Office for Mac licensing issue. It has been resolved through an Office update, but the Mac must be running macOS 12 Monterey or later.
Here are some suggestions you can try:
Select the Apple menu > About This Mac and confirm that the Mac is using macOS 12 or newer. If it is older, update macOS first, if the Mac supports it.
Close Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote.
If Office was downloaded from Microsoft’s website, open Finder > Applications > Microsoft AutoUpdate, then select Update All. If Microsoft AutoUpdate is not listed there, open /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0/.
If Office was installed from the Mac App Store, open the App Store > Updates, then update all Microsoft Office apps.
Restart the Mac and sign in again using the Microsoft account that owns the Microsoft 365 subscription.
If the Mac cannot be upgraded to macOS 12, the desktop apps may remain view-only. In that case, use Microsoft 365 on the web or a supported device.
