Unable to add specific gmail account to outlook for ios

Outlook for iOS stopped synchronizing mail from one of my gmail accounts. Tried "Reset Account" and "Remove account" without success - "Updating emails . . ." message on an otherwise blank screen continued for 10 hours. I tried deleting the Outlook app and reinstalling. When I try to add this specific gmail account through "Add Account," I enter the email address, password, two-factor authentication and then "Unable to log in Please contact support for assistance." pops up.

This is a personal gmail account. I have no issues when adding another personal gmail account. I have cleared Safari cache, restarted the iphone between deleting Outlook for IOS and reinstalling. I revoked permissions to Microsoft from my google account, prompting me to resign in when I used Outlook Classic on my desktop.

The account syncs fine with the iphone mail app. It synced fine when I installed the google gmail iphone app. It works fine in Outlook Classic desktop. Just this specific gmail account and Outlook for iOS.

Any help appreciated.

    Hello,

I'd need to isolate what is interrupting the authentication handoff.

Do you happen to have the Microsoft Authenticator app installed on your iPhone right now? Sometimes it tries to broker the sign in process for Microsoft apps and gets stuck in a loop specifically with Google two factor authentication. Also what exact version of iOS and Outlook app are you running?

Let me know those details so we can narrow this down.
