Hello DDF,
From your description, you can sign in to the OneNote desktop app, but opening OneNote through OneDrive on your PC returns the “Something went wrong – Thread was being aborted” message with a SharePoint correlation ID.
This may happen because of a sign-in redirect, an expired browser session, or a timeout issue.
Please try the options below and check whether the issue continues:
- Open OneNote for the web in an InPrivate/Incognito window and sign in with the same account used in the OneNote app. If it works, clear the Microsoft, OneDrive, Office, and OneNote cookies/site data in the regular browser. You may also try another updated browser.
- Temporarily disable any VPN, proxy, browser privacy extension, or antivirus web-filtering feature. If possible, test from another network or device.
- In the desktop app, confirm that recent notes are fully synced before making further changes. Do not delete the OneNote cache, as unsynced notes may be lost.
- Check whether the error affects every notebook or only one. If only one is affected, confirm that it is still visible in OneDrive and that the account has permission to open it.
If the issue continues after trying these steps, please contact Microsoft Support and provide the correlation ID, exact date and time, and time zone shown on the error page so they can investigate further. Since this is a user-to-user community forum, we can only share suggestions based on our research and personal experience.
Here's how to reach out to the Support Team (live chat):
- Go to: https://support.microsoft.com/home/contact
- In the search box, enter a short description of your issue.
- Hit "Get Help"
- Scroll down and select Sign in to contact support for further assistance (please sign in using a personal Microsoft account). Then follow the on-screen prompts to reach Support Team.
Tip: Support chat availability may vary by country/region, product, and support hours. If you can't get in touch with a chat agent right away, trying again later or at a different time may help.
Note: If you’re using a work or school account, please contact your Microsoft 365 administrator for further investigation.
Hopefully your issue will soon be sorted out. Thank you so much for your patience!
