Keyboard issues with the Word app on iPhone

Does anyone have issues with the Word app not opening the keyboard? I just started having this issue. I used to be able to go back and select my files to edit them, and all my files were saved to my iPhone. But recently, I cannot go back and edit those files. Only if they are saved on “cloud” or my “OneDrive personal” can I edit them. But I never had an issue in the past, and even Microsoft tech support doesn’t know why. We did every possible troubleshooting step you can do to try to rectify the problem, but still no luck.

I have my documents saved on iCloud and OneDrive. It does not matter where the document is saved. I still do not have a keyboard when I open the document and cannot type or edit my doc.

    Dear G,

Sorry you’re having trouble editing Word documents saved directly on your iPhone.

From your description, the on-screen keyboard does not appear for files stored on the device, while documents saved to OneDrive can still be edited normally. Many other iPhone users have reported the same behavior previously, but so far, there does not appear to be an official fix for it.

Please try the following options and check whether they help:

    • Update your iPhone under Settings > General > Software Update, then update Word from the App Store.
    • Open an affected file, select the three-dot menu, then choose Save a Copy > iPhone and try editing the new copy.
    • If that does not help, upload the files to OneDrive and edit them there temporarily. Alternatively, open them in Apple Pages, make the changes, and export them back as Word documents.

I also recommend submitting feedback through Word > three-dot menu > Send Feedback or through the Microsoft's Feedback Portal (you can create a new report or vote for an existing report describing the same issue) so the issue can reach the relevant product team. Since this is a user-to-user community forum, we can only share suggestions based on our findings and personal experience. Although feedback may not provide an immediate fix, it can help bring the issue to the product team’s attention for further investigation and improvement.

If any confirmed updates become available, I'll share it back here. Thank you very much for your patience and understanding!

    Best regards.
