Welcome Bruce Epstein,
I understand how frustrating it can be when a black "Please select language" box remains visible on your Windows 11 screen after setting up your new computer.
Before proceeding, could you please clarify:
- Does the box appear immediately after sign-in or only when specific applications are open?
- Is it always visible, or does it disappear when you switch to another user account?
Building on the earlier suggestions, you might also consider the following options:
Option 1: Check the Input Indicator settings
- Open Settings > Personalization > Taskbar
- Expand System tray icons
- Turn Input Indicator Off, then restart Windows
Option 2: Check installed keyboard languages
- Open Settings > Time & language > Language & region
- Remove any keyboard layouts or languages you do not use
- Restart the computer
Option 3: Restart the Text Input service
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager
- Go to Details
- End TextInputHost.exe if present
- Sign out and sign back in
Option 4: Perform a Clean Boot test
- Press Windows + R, type
msconfig, and press Enter - On the Services tab, select Hide all Microsoft services
- Click Disable all
- Restart and check whether the box still appears
I hope the steps above help you deal with your issue.
