Accessing Outlook on the web for business using organizational credentials.
Hello @Tamlin Unruh
I understand you are trying to sign in to your Outlook work email on your phone, but the recovery option is showing a phone number that does not belong to you.
This usually happens when the security information on the account was set up earlier with a different phone number.
To guide you better, may I confirm:
1/ Is this account provided by your workplace or school (a Microsoft 365 work/school account)?
- Personal Microsoft account (e.g., @hotmail.com or @outlook.com)
- Account provided by your work (e.g., @yourcompany.com or @onmicrosoft.com)
- A School account (e.g., @schoolname.edu)
2/ Do you have access to another recovery method such as an alternate email or the Microsoft Authenticator app?
3/ Is this the first time that you have accessed to this account? If not, how did you access Outlook before?
Along the way, I will also share a few simple steps you can try to double‑check what might be happening on your end if you are using a work/ school account.
1/ Sign in with a browser
- Go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com and log in with your Outlook work account.
- You can see all current recovery options.
2/ Add your phone number
- On the left menu, choose “Security info”.
- You can delete the old phone number first.
- At the top, select “Add method”, then choose “Phone” and enter your number.
- You can make sure you can receive codes on your own phone.
4/ If you cannot change it
For work accounts, sometimes only your company’s IT team can update recovery details. In that case, contact them to update the number.
If the issue still remains after trying all the steps above, please share a screenshot or provide more detailed information. I will check the situation and continue to support you.
Kind regards,
