Compromised Microsoft account recovered, but Microsoft services still showing incorrect account information

My Microsoft account was compromised and I have successfully completed Microsoft Account Recovery. After recovery, my account page shows my correct account information and appears secure.

However, several Microsoft services are still not working correctly after the recovery:

  • Windows 11 Settings does not correctly recognize my recovered Microsoft account.
  • Outlook cannot complete sign-in and shows error 0x80048820.
  • Xbox services appear to be linked to the wrong Xbox profile instead of my original profile.
  • Some Microsoft sign-in pages still appear to show information that does not belong to my recovered account.

I have already:

  • Completed Microsoft Account Recovery
  • Changed my Microsoft account password
  • Confirmed that my account page shows the correct sign-in information

This appears to be an issue where some Microsoft services may still have outdated account associations, cached authentication data, or identity records from before the recovery.

Could someone advise:

  • How to fully refresh my Microsoft account identity across Windows, Xbox, Outlook, and other Microsoft services?
  • Whether there is a Microsoft team that handles account identity synchronization issues after a compromise?
  • What steps should be taken when account recovery succeeds but services still behave as if the account has not been fully restored?

I have contacted Xbox Support separately regarding the Xbox profile issue, but I am looking for help with the wider Microsoft account identity problem affecting multiple services.

    Hi Javen Yeo,

I really wish I could assist you directly on this issue. However, the behavior you're experiencing is tied to back‑end systems and service functionality, and unfortunately, we don't have the authority or access required to investigate or make changes at that level.

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators, contributors including external Microsoft employees cannot directly intervene in Microsoft product features or access back-end systems. Our role is limited to providing technical guidance on reported issues, requests, or ideas.

Given these limitations, the most appropriate avenue for product changes or feature requests is to contact Microsoft Support.

Thank you for your understanding, and I hope the support team can resolve this for you soon.
