Friends and family have been receiving emails from my msn.com email address that I did not send. I am also not receiving emails into my outlook inbox. I know this because I have been contacted by friends and family by texts regarding the receipt of emails not sent by me and I sent emails to my msn.com address from both my gmail and yahoo accounts which have not been delivered. My msn.com account is my main email account. I have run virus scans (I use aura) on both of my computers and my cell phone which have come back clean. I also changed my microsoft password. Please help. I don't know what else I can do.

Hi Timon310,

I’m sorry you’re experiencing this. Since your friends and family are receiving messages you did not send and incoming emails are missing, your account may have been compromised, although the sender address could also have been spoofed.

You have already taken two important steps by scanning your devices and changing your password. Please also:

  • Review your https://account.live.com/activity and mark any unfamiliar sign-ins as This wasn’t me.
  • Sign in to Outlook.com and check Settings > Mail > Forwarding. Disable any forwarding address you did not add.
  • Check Settings > Mail > Rules and remove unfamiliar rules, especially those that forward, redirect, move, or delete messages.
  • Review Sent Items, Deleted Items, Junk Email, Archive, blocked senders, and automatic replies.
  • Check your Microsoft account security information and remove any unknown recovery email address, phone number, device, or sign-in method. Enable two-step verification if it is not already enabled.
  • Ask your contacts not to select links, open attachments, or reply to the suspicious messages.

Please follow Microsoft’s official hacked or compromised account recovery guidance.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.
