How To Delete Autocomplete Email Address On Outlook

I Googled this & a tutorial came up said to go to File, Options but that is not an option for our account. I'm using Outlook.cloud.... Also trying to figure this out using Hotmail too. I can't delete a bad address that comes up when I hit a certain letter. If someone can help me out on how to do this on both accounts I'd appreciate it.

Hi Blessed Trinity Office,

I understand that an incorrect email address appears when you enter a particular letter in the recipient field of your Outlook.com and Hotmail accounts. The File > Options instructions apply to classic Outlook for Windows, not Outlook on the web.

Please note that this is a user-to-user forum, so contributors cannot access or change the suggested addresses in your accounts.

While signed in to each account, select New mail, start typing the incorrect address in the To field, and check whether an X appears beside the suggestion. If it does, select the X to remove that entry.

If the X is unavailable or the address continues to appear, select Settings > General > Privacy and data > Suggested people > Clear data and turn off. This clears the entire expanded suggested-recipient list, not only the incorrect address, and the cleared data cannot be recovered. You can enable expanded contact suggestions again afterward.

Also check People to confirm that the incorrect address is not saved as a contact. Saved contacts can still be suggested after Suggested People data is cleared. Repeat these steps separately for the Outlook.com and Hotmail accounts.

I hope this helps you remove the incorrect address from both accounts.

Yes, this also applies to a Hotmail account. If your Outlook.com and Hotmail addresses are separate Microsoft accounts, you will need to clear the Suggested People data while signed in to each account separately.

Thank you, Hornblower409, for adding the information about exporting the Suggested People data first. Please refer to Hornblower409’s answer if you would like to preserve any wanted suggestions as contacts before clearing the list.

I hope the incorrect address is removed once the clearing process is complete.

Thank you for the update. Just to make sure we're looking at the correct account type, when you say the Outlook 365 account did not work, is that a work or school Microsoft 365 account or a personal Outlook.com/Hotmail account with a Microsoft 365 subscription?

The steps discussed earlier were for Outlook.com/Hotmail accounts, so the next steps may be different depending on which type of account is affected.

You can this link - Ask a question on Microsoft Q&A to create the new thread.

Enter a Title and describe the work-account issue under Details.

Under Tag, select Generate tags.

Choose the relevant Microsoft 365 / Outlook For Business tag.

Select Post question.

This will place the work-account question in the appropriate business support area.
