My Microsoft ID (another one) got locked, even recovery is blocked

Hi!

I have another ID, that I had been using for years. Now it is locked. Even recover is blocked. I can change the credentials though. And my Authenticator app also can authenticate when login is attempted.

The ID is personal ID and not under any paid subscription. Should I wait and try another time to recover? Or is there any other method to apply for re-activation.

Thanks.

Yes—waiting is recommended if the account is showing a temporary block.

For a personal Microsoft account, the supported steps are:

  1. Try another verification method if one is available on the account. If SMS is blocked, use an alternate email or another listed method.
  2. Try another network by switching between Wi‑Fi and mobile data, or using a different Wi‑Fi network.
  3. Wait before trying again. A day may be enough for some blocks, but if it still fails after 24 hours, wait longer—up to 1 week. Avoid repeated sign-in or recovery attempts during that time, because repeated attempts can prolong the block.
  4. Use the Sign-in Helper for available support options and sign-in troubleshooting.

If the account is locked and the sign-in page does not show Next, that indicates the account was locked due to suspicious activity or a Terms of Use violation. In that case, the supported path is to use the aka.ms/ link shown in the sign-in window and submit the reinstatement form. After submission, a Microsoft Online Safety support agent reviews it and responds by email. Do not submit multiple requests, because that can slow the response.

Since the Authenticator app can still approve sign-in attempts, if sign-in succeeds at any point, add or update another verification method in the account’s security info so recovery does not depend on a single method.

If two-step verification is enabled and none of the alternate verification methods are accessible, support agents cannot reset the account or change account details on behalf of the account owner.
