Outlook app text rendering in Android 17

A couple weeks ago, while running Android 17 beta, I noticed Outlook text rendering glitches. I subsequently did a factory reset on my phone and went to Android 17 stable. The glitches have returned.

Samples and profile attached. A search on an Outlook Reddit shows other users experiencing this. Are there root causes identified and/or settings changes to address?611

Sometime over the weekend my Outlook app updated to 5.2629.2 and now the fonts are appearing normally once again.

I cannot confirm whether something on the android side may have changed, just that Outlook did and the reported issue has been resolved for me.

    Dear James,

Thank you for providing the screenshots and detailed description of your issue.

Based on what you have shared, this appears to be an issue with the way Microsoft Outlook for Android is rendering email content on Android 17. Since the problem occurred on both Android 17 Beta and Stable, a factory reset did not resolve it, and other users are reporting the same behavior, this strongly suggests a compatibility issue between the Outlook app and Android 17, rather than something specific to your device. As a forum moderator, I genuinely wish I could directly access your account or delve into the backend systems to diagnose and fix this for you. Unfortunately, my role here is limited to providing general guidance. I am also not aware of any published root-cause analysis or documented fix for this specific behavior at this time. I would recommend the following:

    1. Verify Outlook is updated to the latest version from the Google Play Store, in case a fix has already shipped.
    2. Submit feedback from within the Outlook app (Help > Feedback > Report a problem) and include your screenshots and Android build number. This is the most direct route to the product team for an app-level rendering issue.
    3. Use Outlook on the web as a temporary workaround while this is being investigated, as it should render messages correctly.
    4. Have the Global Admin in your organization open a service request with Microsoft Support. A support engineer can log the issue formally, gather diagnostics, and escalate it to the Outlook mobile engineering team. For detailed instructions on how to get support, please refer to Get support - Microsoft 365 admin. If you don't know who your IT administrator is, please refer to this article: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support

I know this isn't the answer you were hoping for, and it's disappointing when the solution isn't straightforward. Please know that as a forum moderator, pointing you toward the correct, specialized support is the most effective help I can offer from my position. I truly hope this gets addressed in an upcoming Outlook update. Wishing you all the best.
