Welcome HARDCORE GAMES™,
I understand how frustrating it can be when Hi @HARDCORE GAMES™, Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand that File Explorer or Task Manager is displaying an unexpected or incomplete disk description for your external USB drive.
Before proceeding, could you please confirm:
- Does the incorrect description appear only in Task Manager, or also in Device Manager and Disk Management?
- Did this start after a recent Windows update, or has the drive always been shown this way?
In the meantime, you can try these steps below to troubleshoot the issue:
Option 1: Refresh the device information
- Disconnect the USB drive
- Restart the PC
- Reconnect the drive using a different USB port
Option 2: Check Device Manager
- Open Device Manager
- Expand Disk drives
- Check whether the device name is displayed correctly there
Option 3: Rescan hardware
- In Device Manager, select Action
- Choose Scan for hardware changes
Option 4: Reinstall the device
- In Device Manager, right-click the external drive
- Select Uninstall device
- Disconnect and reconnect the drive to allow Windows to reinstall it
Option 5: Verify the drive information
- Open PowerShell as Administrator
- Run:
Get-Disk | Format-Table Number,FriendlyName,SerialNumber - Compare the reported drive name with what appears in Task Manager
I hope the steps above help you deal with your issue.
