My email was registered as both a personal Microsoft account and a work or school account. Until 26 July 2026, signing in prompted me to choose between the two. Since then, the prompt no longer appears and sign-in automatically routes to the work account.
Currently, when I sign in at login.live.com with my email, I am now given a brand new, empty personal account rather than my original one. It appears the two accounts were separated, the work account retained the email address, and my original personal account was left without a reachable sign-in email.
My original personal account still exists and contains all my files. I located its permanent account ID (CID) in the local OneDrive registry:
- Original personal account CID: e9f*******
- Work or school account CID: 27cc----******
- Shared email: ******@utem.edu.my
- Organisation on work account: ******
I do not recall any older or alternative email that the personal account may have originally used, so I cannot sign into it myself.
I need help:
- Help to recover access to my original personal account, identified by CID.
- Since the email address now belongs to the work tenant and cannot be used for the personal account, I would like to attach a new personal email address (one that I control) to that account so I can sign in again.
- Confirmation that the files in the original personal account are intact and recoverable.
For reference, a recent sign-in error I received:
- Error tag: 7q6ca
- Code: 2147483661
- Correlation Id: 7527c064-4a87-46ac-965c-2f0ab7fcb5b9
- Timestamp: 2026-07-27T04:42:10.000Z
Please let me know what verification you need from me to proceed. I am keen to resolve this quickly as it is holding up my work.
Thank you for your help.
