BitLocker recovery key not found in any Microsoft account, Lenovo ThinkPad P14s

My personal Lenovo ThinkPad P14s (Windows 11) suddenly booted into a BitLocker recovery screen with no prior warning — no updates I knowingly installed, no hardware changes made by me.

Recovery Key ID shown on screen: 86504FBF-40A1-4032-90E9-08D1B2FFA83D

I've checked:

Both personal Microsoft accounts I've ever used — no BitLocker keys listed under either at account.microsoft.com/devices

A school-affiliated Microsoft account that was also signed into this device at some point — no keys found there either

No printed copy, saved file, or USB backup exists anywhere

I set up this laptop myself when it arrived brand new from Lenovo, so I should have been the one signed in during initial OOBE setup — but nothing shows up.

Both my C: drive and a second "New Volume" partition are BitLocker-locked and prompting for their own recovery keys. "Skip this drive" just cycles to the next locked partition. Startup Repair, Uninstall Updates, and Command Prompt in Advanced Options all fail since they require the OS drive to be unlocked first.

Questions:

Is there any known reason a BitLocker key would fail to back up to a Microsoft account during initial Windows 11 setup, even when signed in?

Given the Recovery Key ID above, is there any way to confirm which account (if any) it's tied to?

If the key genuinely doesn't exist anywhere, is a full "Reset this PC → Remove everything" my only remaining option, or is there anything else worth trying first?

Any guidance would be appreciated — trying to make sure I haven't missed anything before wiping the drive.

If your drive is encrypted with Bitlocker, there is no way for anyone else to find the Bitlocker key or trace the account the key may be linked to, even Microsoft support, if you can contact them cannot trace it.

The only place the Bitlocker Recovery key is automatically stored is on the associated Microsoft account on the link below, be sure to check any Microsoft account that may have been used on the PC and also any work or school account that may be linked to the PC.

Are you able to find the Bitlocker Recovery Key on any account that may have been used or linked to the laptop?

If not, do you have a safe backup of your files, or use a cloud service like OneDrive to sync your files online.

If you are unable to find the Bitlocker Recovery Key on any account that may have been used on that device, then I am sorry for the bad news, a Windows reset will not work on an encrypted drive, the only way to access that device is to create a bootable Windows 11 USB on another working PC and use that to clean install Windows and at the start of the installation, delete all partitions on the drive to remove the encryption, which will sadly result in loss of all data on the drive.
