Setting up future meetings with participants using Teams calendar or Outlook integration
Dear Biyi,
Good day, and thank you for reaching out to the Q&A Forum. From my research, the value you are seeing (/o=ExchangeLabs/ou=Exchange Administrative Group...) is an Exchange Legacy Distinguished Name (LegacyExchangeDN), not a normal email address. This usually indicates that Teams or Exchange is unable to properly resolve the organizer's account details, and is falling back to displaying the underlying Exchange directory object instead of the mailbox's display name or SMTP address. As a forum moderator, I genuinely wish I could directly access your mailbox to diagnose and resolve this for you. Unfortunately, my role here is limited to providing general guidance and steps you can try on your end. Please try the following steps to see if they help:
1.Clear AutoComplete cache
This is the most common cause. Outlook may have cached the LegacyExchangeDN in its AutoComplete list instead of the SMTP address.
- In Classic Outlook, start a new email or meeting invite.
- Begin typing your own name or the affected recipient's name in the To field.
- When the suggestion appears, click the X next to it to remove the cached entry.
- Type the full email address manually instead.
Alternatively, you can clear the entire list at once: in Classic Outlook, go to File > Options > Mail, then under Send messages, click Empty Auto-Complete List.
Once done, create a new test meeting invite and check whether the organizer now resolves correctly.
2.Send meeting update
Try modifying the meeting invite and sending an update to all attendees, or ask an attendee to respond to the meeting (accept, tentative, or decline). Afterwards, clear the Outlook AutoComplete cache as described above and try again.
3.Test on the web
Create a test meeting invite from Outlook on the web instead of the desktop client. If the organizer resolves correctly there, this confirms the issue is with your local Outlook profile or cache rather than your mailbox configuration.
4.Contact support
If none of the steps above resolve it, then this may point to a directory-side issue that requires admin access. Please reach out to your IT administrator and ask them to verify:
- The mailbox has a valid Primary SMTP Address.
- The user's Display Name resolves correctly in Exchange Online.
- No duplicate or stale mail-enabled objects exist in the directory.
- The mailbox object is healthy in both the Exchange Admin Center and Microsoft Entra ID.
A useful troubleshooting step for your admin is to compare the affected mailbox against a known working mailbox, and check whether Outlook resolves the organizer to the correct SMTP address and display name in each case. If you don't know who your IT administrator is, please refer to this article: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support
I hope this information helps clarify the situation and provides you with a clear path forward. Should you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out. I'm always happy to help. Have a wonderful day.
