On Mac, there are two supported ways to disable Copilot in Microsoft 365 apps:

    1. In Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, go to the app menu > Preferences > Authoring and Proofing Tools > Copilot.
    2. Clear Enable Copilot.
    3. Close and restart the app.

If that Copilot setting is available, this is the preferred method because it turns off Copilot without changing broader privacy settings.

If that setting is not available on the Mac yet, use the privacy setting instead:

    1. Open a Microsoft 365 app.
    2. Go to the app menu > Preferences > Personal Settings > Privacy.
    3. In Privacy, go to Connected Experiences > Manage Connected Experiences.
    4. Clear Turn on experiences that analyze your content.
    5. Select OK, then close and restart the app.

That privacy change applies across the other apps the next time they are opened, but it also turns off other features that rely on connected experiences.

If Copilot still appears after that on Mac, the context indicates Mac support for direct Copilot control has been rolling out and may not be available in every app/build yet. In Outlook, the control is separate:

    • Mac Outlook: Quick Settings > Copilot > use the Turn on Copilot toggle.

If the goal is all apps on Mac:

    • Use Enable Copilot where that option exists in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Use the Privacy setting if the Copilot preference is missing.
    • In Outlook for Mac, use Quick Settings > Copilot.
