Controlling settings, permissions, and membership within Teams and channels
Good day Vascik,
Thank you for sharing your concern.
Planner can be added as a tab within a Microsoft Teams channel. However, this functionality is managed from Teams, not directly from SharePoint. Although Teams channels are connected to SharePoint for file storage, apps such as Planner are added through the Teams channel interface.
The most likely reason you don't see Planner in the new channel is that the channel may be a Private Channel or Shared Channel. Planner tab support is currently available for Standard Channels. Support for Private and Shared Channels is still being developed and may not yet be available in your tenant.
Here are some options you may consider:
Option 1: Add Planner to a standard channel
If the channel is a Standard Channel, please try the following:
Open Microsoft Teams. Navigate to the Team that contains the channel.
Open the Standard Channel where you want to use Planner.
Select Add a tab (+) at the top of the channel > Select Apps > Search for Planner > Select Planner.
Choose either to create a new plan or to add an existing plan that is already associated with the team.
Select Save.
If Planner appears in the app list, the channel supports the Planner tab experience.
Option 2: Use a standard channel instead
If the current channel is a private channel or shared channel, Planner may not appear as an available tab.
In that case, you can create a new standard channel within the same Team.
Move project discussions and collaboration activities to that channel, if restricted membership isn't required.
Add Planner by following the steps in Option 1.
Additional information is available in the following resource: Add Planner as a tab in Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Support
- If your requirement is specifically to have a Planner tab inside a private or shared Channel, this functionality is dependent on Microsoft's feature rollout schedule. Currently, there is no supported method to manually enable the feature before it becomes generally available. Once Microsoft releases support to eligible tenants, it should become available automatically.
I hope this information is helpful. If you have any questions or need further support, please don’t hesitate to reach out at any time.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
