Why can't I login to my account! I use my username, but when I click next it says "Sorry, we're having trouble signing you in. Please try again"

When I entered my username, [REMOVED PII]

and my password: removed - I get the above message

A client sent me a Microsoft file that needed to opened with Microsoft! When I went to open the file using my username and password, I got the message "Sorry, but we're having trouble signing you in"

After trying for most of the day, I emailed my client back only to find out he found another source for his order!

Yes, I did send a response back to you, but I'm not sure it went through!

When I enter my username, and press NEXT, above my username it says “Sorry, we’re having trouble signing you in.” I cannot even get to the Password window!

    Dear Ralph Smith,

From what you described, after you enter your username and password, the sign-in shows “Sorry, we’re having trouble signing you in.” This might be caused by a browser session problem, an incorrect account type, or an account-related sign-in error.

To help narrow this down, could you let me know whether you’re signing in through a web browser or within an Office app? Are you using a personal Microsoft account or a work or school account? Also, is any error code shown with the message?

In the meantime, try the options below and check whether the issue continues:

    1. Open a private or Incognito browser window and sign in again. If that works, clear the browser’s cookies and cached files.
    2. Try another browser, device, or internet connection. If you use a VPN or proxy, temporarily turn it off.
    3. Carefully check the full username. If asked, select the correct personal account or work or school account.
    4. For a personal account, use the Microsoft Sign-in Helper to check the account and follow the recommended recovery steps.
    5. If this is a work or school account, contact your organization’s IT administrator and provide the complete error message, error code, timestamp, and correlation ID shown on the page. These details help identify the specific sign-in failure.

Please let me know how it goes after trying these steps, and I'll be glad to continue looking into it with you.
