    Hi John Pilmer,

Please note that our Microsoft Q&A forum is a public platform, and we will modify your response/ question to hide your personal information in the description. Kindly ensure that you hide any personal or organizational information the next time you post an error or other details to protect personal data.

It appears that you are experiencing a known issue that prevents Office from opening. The good news is that the issue has been resolved. Please refer to the following article for the recommended fix steps: Unknown Error 0x0 or License not found error in Microsoft 365 or Office running on macOS.

One important requirement to note is that your Mac must be running macOS 12 (Monterey) or later. If you are using an earlier version of macOS, please update the operating system first; otherwise, the fix may not work as expected.

You can also find additional information and community feedback in this discussion thread: 0x0 Error After Mac Update July 14th, 2026 - Microsoft Q&A.

If the problem persists, please help us confirm the following:

    1. When you sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/services, do you see an active Microsoft 365 Personal subscription listed under the account used to make the purchase?
    2. Was the renewal purchased using the same Microsoft account currently signed in to Word and the other Office applications on your Mac?
    3. What exact message do you receive when opening an Office application?
    4. What is your macOS version?
    5. Have you already tried signing out of all Office applications and signing back in with the account associated with the subscription? If yes, what was the result?

With those details, we'll be able to troubleshoot the activation issue more accurately.
