A family of Microsoft products that enable users to capture, organize, and reuse notes electronically.
Hi Larry,
Thank you for reaching out.
I’m sorry OneNote repeatedly crashes when you select a search result, especially since the same notebooks work correctly on your Windows laptop. This suggests the issue may be specific to the OneNote app or its local data on the affected iPad.
To resolve the issue, please try these steps;
- Temporarily disable automatic attachment synchronization
In OneNote, open Settings > Sync, turn off Auto Sync Attachments, close OneNote completely, and then reopen it to test the search again. Microsoft recommends this setting when large notebooks cause performance or stability problems on an iPad or iPhone.
- Temporarily disable Stage Manager
If Stage Manager is enabled, open the iPad Settings, select Multitasking & Gestures or Home Screen & Multitasking, and turn off Stage Manager. Reopen OneNote and test the search again. This has helped some users experiencing OneNote crashes on iPad, although it may not resolve every type of crash.
- Reinstall OneNote
First, confirm that your latest notes are synchronized and visible on your Windows laptop or in OneNote for the web. You can then remove OneNote from the iPad, restart the device, reinstall OneNote from the App Store, and sign in again.
- Contact Microsoft Support
If the issue persists after trying these steps, the best next step would be to have your IT administrator open a support ticket with Microsoft via the admin center. A technical support engineer can then initiate a remote session, review backend settings, and run diagnostics. If needed, they can escalate the case to specialized engineering teams who are well-equipped to perform advanced troubleshooting and provide targeted solutions.
