Home edition might have some limitation that not all work and school account can be used to sign in. In this case, you should contact your school IT department and ask them for more information on how to join your computer into the school domain and whether they allow it. Personally, I do think that asking for the school approval and confirmation first is a good idea, since adding work or school account as log in credentials might cause issue in the future. For example, when you graduate and the account got deactivated.

Actually, which edition of Windows you use doesn't really matter in this. This depends on whether your school allow student devices to join their Entra ID. If they allow it, Windows Pro is enough, may I know what happen when you try to go to Settings > Accounts > Access work or school and try to access your school account?
