A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
Hello Vikram Ranka,
I understand that your entire OneDrive has been deleted three times within the past few days, even though Windows was newly installed, no virus was found, and only one person should have permission to delete the files.
To identify the cause, please try the following:
- Sign in to OneDrive on the web and review the activity feed around the time the files disappeared. This may show when the deletion started.
- Check both the OneDrive Recycle Bin and the Windows Recycle Bin. If the files also appear in the Windows Recycle Bin on a particular computer, this may indicate that the deletion started from that device. However, the OneDrive activity feed is more useful for checking when the mass deletion occurred
- Confirm that each device is signed in with the correct Microsoft account and syncing the intended OneDrive folder.
- Review who has Edit access to shared folders, since editing permission can also allow deletion.
To avoid this happening again, please try:
- Verify the newly installed PC is connected to the correct account and folder.
- Back up important files to an external drive or a folder outside OneDrive.
- Restore deleted files from the OneDrive Recycle Bin. If many files were removed and the account has Microsoft 365, use Settings > Restore your OneDrive to return it to an earlier point. See more: Restore deleted files or folders in OneDrive
If files continue disappearing while all computers are disconnected, change the account password, enable two-step verification, and contact Microsoft Support for an account-side investigation.
Also, please note that this is a user-to-user forum. We do not have access to your account, sign-in records, or OneDrive activity, so we cannot confirm the exact source of the deletions. We can only provide guidance based on the information you have shared and the troubleshooting steps available.
Here's how to reach out to the Support Team (live chat):
- Go to: https://support.microsoft.com/home/contact
- In the search box, enter a short description of your issue.
- Hit "Get Help"
- Scroll down and select Sign in to contact support for further assistance (please sign in using a personal Microsoft account). Then follow the on-screen prompts to reach Support Team.
Tip: Support chat availability may vary by country/region, product, and support hours. If you can't get in touch with a chat agent right away, trying again later or at a different time may help.
Hopefully your issue will be sorted out soon. Thank you so much for your patience!
Best regards.
