Hi Rodney Harrelson

Please try the steps below:

1) Create an app password from your mail provider first

For some Yahoo-managed mail accounts, third-party email apps such as Classic Outlook require an app password instead of the normal webmail password. Generate the app password from your provider’s account security page, then use that app password in Outlook.

2) Update the mail server settings in Classic Outlook

In Outlook, go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings, select the affected account, then choose Repair or Change. Use the provider’s current settings. For Yahoo-managed email, the common settings are:

Incoming POP settings

  • Server: pop.mail.yahoo.com
  • Port: 995
  • Encryption: SSL/TLS

Incoming IMAP settings

  • Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
  • Port: 993
  • Encryption: SSL/TLS

Outgoing SMTP settings

  • Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
  • Port: 465 or 587
  • Encryption: SSL/TLS
  • Authentication required: Yes
  • Username: your full email address
  • Password: the generated app password

3) Consider IMAP instead of POP

If you read the same mailbox on both your PC and iPhone, IMAP is usually better because it syncs mail across devices. POP may download mail to one device and can cause confusion if the same mailbox is used on multiple devices.

4) Create a new Outlook profile if the old settings remain stuck

If Outlook keeps using the old settings or still fails after updating the password and server details, create a new Outlook profile.

Go to Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles > Add, create a new profile, then add the account again using the current Yahoo-managed settings and the app password.

5) If Outlook still will not connect

Contact the mail provider and ask them to confirm:

  • Whether POP or IMAP access is enabled.
  • Whether an app password is required.
  • Whether any security setting is blocking Classic Outlook.
  • Whether the account has been fully transitioned to Yahoo-managed mail.

Please reply with only the exact Outlook error message if it still fails.

Please tell me how it goes. If the problem persists, please don’t hesitate to reply to this thread and I will be happy to help. Have a lovely day!
