It’s the password for your email service account. Under outlook accounts you can specify the password.

Hi Tim Shaw

Please try the steps below:

1) Check which account New Outlook is asking for

If the mailbox is Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live, or MSN, use the Microsoft account password for that email address. If the mailbox is Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, or another provider, use that provider’s password. If two-step verification is enabled, you may need an app password or provider-specific sign-in setup.

2) Test the account in a browser first

Try signing in to the mailbox through its webmail page.

3) Remove and add the account again in New Outlook

In New Outlook, go to: Settings > Accounts > Your accounts

Then select Manage beside the affected account, remove it, and add it again.

4) Repair or reset New Outlook if the sign-in prompt keeps looping

Go to: Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Outlook (new) > Advanced options. Try Repair first. If that does not help, use Reset, then open New Outlook and add the account again.

5) If this is a third-party mailbox

If the account is Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, or an internet provider email address, confirm the current sign-in requirements with that provider before adding it back to New Outlook.

Check whether the provider requires:

  • An app password.
  • Two-step verification.
  • Permission for third-party mail apps.
  • Updated account security settings.

Please reply with only these details if it still fails:

  • Is the affected email Outlook.com/Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, or another provider?
  • Can you sign in to the same mailbox in a browser?
  • What is the exact “access denied” message, without your email address or password?

Please tell me how it goes. If the problem persists, please don’t hesitate to reply to this thread and I will be happy to help. Have a lovely day!
