Additional features, settings, or issues not covered by specific Microsoft Teams categories
Hi,
Thank you for reaching out.
Since you are the meeting organizer, you will need to sign in to Teams using the same work or school Microsoft account that was used to create the meeting. To access and manage Breakout Rooms, I also recommend using the Teams desktop application rather than Teams Free, a personal Microsoft account, or the mobile app.
Please try the following steps:
1/ Join from the browser as a temporary workaround
If your meeting is currently in progress, you can quickly join through the web app:
- Go to https://teams.cloud.microsoft/
- Sign in using your work or school Microsoft 365 account (not a personal Microsoft account).
- Join your meeting and check whether organizer controls are available.
2/ Install and sign in to the correct Teams app
Download Microsoft Teams from:
Download Teams Desktop and Mobile Apps | Microsoft Teams
Please ensure you are installing and signing in to Microsoft Teams for work or school. The new Teams client can support both personal and work accounts, but you must be signed into the correct organizational account for meeting organizer features to appear.
After installation:
- Open Teams.
- Click your profile picture or initials in the top-right corner.
- Verify the account currently signed in.
- If it is not the account that organized the meeting, select Sign out.
- Sign back in using the email address that created the meeting.
3/ Rejoin the meeting from the Teams desktop app
Breakout rooms can be created and managed only by the meeting organizer, or by a presenter in the organizer’s organization who was assigned as a breakout room manager.
Once you have joined the meeting:
- Look for Rooms or Breakout rooms on the meeting toolbar.
- If you do not see the option, select More actions (...) and check there.
If the meeting is already live:
If you are unable to regain organizer controls immediately, here are some quick alternatives:
- Ask a colleague from your organization who is already in the meeting to check whether they can manage the breakout rooms.
- If you previously assigned someone as a presenter or Breakout Room manager, have them manage the rooms on your behalf.
- If no one has access to the required controls, create a new Teams meeting using the correct work or school account and share the new meeting link via the current meeting chat.
Hopefully these steps help you regain access quickly. If you continue to experience issues or have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to reach out again.
Thank you for your understanding, and I wish you a wonderful day ahead.
