To remove an account from the Microsoft Authenticator app, open the app and select the account you would like to remove. Then, click the Settings (gear) icon in the top-right corner and choose Remove account.

If you would like to remove completely the Microsoft Authenticator MFA method from your account, sign in to the Security Info page and locate the Microsoft Authenticator method under your registered security methods. After removing it, I strongly recommend that you add and verify an alternative authentication method, such as a phone number, another authenticator app, or a different security method available in your organization.

This is important because if Microsoft Authenticator is your only MFA method and it is removed, you may be unable to complete multi-factor authentication and could lose access to your account. Once another method is configured successfully, you can safely remove the existing Authenticator method and, if needed, set up Microsoft Authenticator again on a new device.

On Android, to delete an account from Microsoft Authenticator:

1. Open Microsoft Authenticator.
2. Select the account to remove.
3. Tap the Settings gear.
4. Tap Remove account.

Important: after removing the account, that device can no longer be used to verify sign-in for that account.

If the goal is to remove all accounts from Authenticator on Android:

1. Open the device Settings app.
2. Go to Apps.
3. Select Authenticator.
4. Select Storage or Storage & cache.
5. Tap Clear data, then OK.

Important: there is no undo. All accounts are removed, and the device will no longer be able to verify sign-in for those accounts.

If the issue is deleting the backup account or a backup saved to the wrong account:

1. Open Authenticator and go to Settings.
2. Under Backup, turn off Cloud Backup.
3. Select OK to delete the backup.
4. Turn Cloud Backup on again if a new backup is needed, then choose Continue or Change account.
