Developer tenant suddenly marked as trial-only, SharePoint read-only

Hi,

My tenant belongs to the Microsoft 365 E5 Developer Program, but the following message appears in the SharePoint Admin Center:

“Your trial will end on July 30, 2026. Trial-only tenants are limited to 30 days and 300GB of pooled storage. Purchase a license to prevent content from becoming read-only.”

This behavior does not correspond to a Developer Program tenant and matches a known issue reported by other Developer tenants between March and July 2026, where the system incorrectly classifies the tenant as “trial-only”, causing SharePoint to become read-only and hiding all standard support options.

    Hi @Gustavo Pérez

    Thank you for reaching out.

Please note that we're not Microsoft Support, this is a user-to-user community forum. Moderators here don't have access to your environment or Microsoft's backend systems, so we can only provide guidance based on public documentation and community experience.

As far as I know, this behavior may be related to the storage entitlements currently documented for Microsoft 365 Developer Program subscriptions. Based on the available documentation, Developer Program tenants may be subject to a pooled storage limit of 300 GB per tenant, with 10 GB of OneDrive storage allocated per user. Additionally, Developer licenses do not appear to contribute additional SharePoint storage in mixed-license scenarios.

If your developer subscription is still active but you believe your tenant has been incorrectly classified or the storage policy has been applied unexpectedly, this would require investigation by the Microsoft 365 Developer Program support team, as they have access to the backend licensing and tenant provisioning information that isn't available through the community forums. For Unified/Premier, you may create a ticket online or contact support by signing in to Engage Center as Developer Support is available as an optional component of Microsoft Unified Support.

You can read more at Open a new Support request - Microsoft Engage Center | Microsoft Learn

Please note that this is a paid support ticket, which means it requires an active support plan or a one-time support purchase. However, the benefit of using this channel is that your inquiry will be routed directly to the Microsoft Product Group responsible for the specific service or feature in question. This team includes engineers and developers who work on the product itself, so they are best positioned to provide accurate, in-depth, and authoritative answers especially for complex or edge-case scenarios that go beyond publicly available documentation or community knowledge.

If you have any additional concerns, feel free to comment below. I would be more than happy to assist.
