I recently set up my account and wanted to use my business domain - however I have mistakenly opened a personal account which only seems to let me use an alias? How do i rectify this.

    Dear Daniel,

Good day, and thank you for reaching out to the Q&A Forum. This is a common mix-up, because Microsoft personal and business accounts are entirely separate systems, even when they use the same email address. A personal Microsoft account supports aliases, but using a custom business domain with proper hosted email requires a Microsoft 365 Business plan that includes Exchange Online. Unfortunately, a personal Microsoft account cannot be converted into a business account. However, before I point you to the right next step, could you please clarify a few details?

    • Did you pay for a subscription, and if so, which one (Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, Business Basic, Business Standard, or Business Premium)?
    • Do you already own the business domain, or do you still need to purchase it?
    • Do you need an actual mailbox (such as daniel@ yourcompany.com), or do you only want to use that address to sign in?
    • Is your business email currently hosted by another provider, or is this a completely new setup?

Please do not post your email address, domain, password, product key, or billing information publicly.

Once I know which situation you are in, I can guide you through the appropriate next steps, whether that is setting up a business tenant, adding your domain, or arranging a refund on a personal plan if one was purchased in error. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Looking forward to your reply.
