To remove OneDrive without losing files, please follow this order:
- Select the OneDrive cloud icon > Settings > Sync and backup > Manage backup.
- Turn off Desktop, Documents, and Pictures, selecting Keep the files only on my PC when prompted.
- Wait until all files are downloaded. If necessary, right-click any cloud-only folders and select Always keep on this device.
- Go to OneDrive Settings > Account > Unlink this PC.
- Open Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Microsoft OneDrive, select the three dots, and choose Uninstall.
- Restart the computer.
Do not manually delete the OneDrive folder before completing these steps, because deleting files while synchronization is active can also delete their online copies. Microsoft documents the process here:
