I have been trying for days to remove the One Drive program from my computer but if any program had been associated with it in the past One Drive or Microsoft continues to rebuild ghost folders and reappear as a default location for saving files. I would like to remove it once and for all. How do I do that (in very simple steps, using simple terms for a non-techie)

To remove OneDrive without losing files, please follow this order:

    1. Select the OneDrive cloud icon > Settings > Sync and backup > Manage backup.
    2. Turn off Desktop, Documents, and Pictures, selecting Keep the files only on my PC when prompted.
    3. Wait until all files are downloaded. If necessary, right-click any cloud-only folders and select Always keep on this device.
    4. Go to OneDrive Settings > Account > Unlink this PC.
    5. Open Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
    6. Find Microsoft OneDrive, select the three dots, and choose Uninstall.
    7. Restart the computer.

Do not manually delete the OneDrive folder before completing these steps, because deleting files while synchronization is active can also delete their online copies. Microsoft documents the process here:
