I edited and saved a document in Word today and it prompted me to upload it to onedrive, so I did. I went back to my browser and continued to surf the web. Eventually, I went to open a file that was located on my desktop and I moved my browser window. When I did, it was a mess! there were about 25+ picture and file icons everywhere. They all had the little cloud indicator next to them but they hadn't been downloaded yet. I immediately paused onedrive so it couldn't do anymore damage and plan on signing out of it in hopes that it will discontinue the download. Will that even stop it? Anyway, can anyone tell me what I did wrong? I'm lost on how to clean up this mess.

You may be syncing your Desktop folder to OneDrive. Go to the OneDrive white cloud icon on the taskbar > Settings > Sync and backup tab > Manage Backup and check. You can turn off folder backup there if you wish.If Desktop is toggled ON, then all files on your desktop are in OneDrive. You may just need to get your Desktop files in order.
