A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
Try these checks in order:
- Open Microsoft Authenticator manually For number matching or approval prompts, the request may already be waiting inside the app even if no pop-up notification appears. Open the app and refresh it by pulling down or tapping Refresh.
- Make sure the app is unlocked If Microsoft Authenticator is locked, the entry box might not appear.
- Turn on notifications If notifications are silent or disabled, the sign-in prompt may not appear. Also check for text-message authentication codes that may have arrived silently.
- Check internet connectivity Make sure the phone has a working connection. Switching between Wi‑Fi and mobile data can help.
- Update the Authenticator app An outdated app version can prevent authentication from completing.
- Verify date and time settings on the device Incorrect device time settings can cause authentication failures.
- If the sign-in is marked anomalous, approve it from inside the app Some anomalous sign-ins do not generate notifications. In that case, open Microsoft Authenticator, refresh, and approve the request there.
- Use another available sign-in method if offered If Outlook offers Use a code or another verification option, use that method to complete sign-in.
- If this is a work or school account and the prompt still never appears Complete the sign-in in Authenticator, Company Portal, or the primary Microsoft app on the device. If sign-in still cannot be completed, contact the IT admin to resolve the authentication method.
