Hi Paul Siso
Since the Exchange 2010 server was deleted years ago and no longer exists, rebuilding Exchange 2010 just to uninstall it is generally not the approach most administrators would take.
If all Exchange 2010 mailboxes, databases, public folders, connectors, and services were successfully migrated to Exchange 2016, the usual path is to remove the orphaned Exchange 2010 objects from Active Directory. Microsoft documentation and Exchange decommissioning guidance reference using ADSI Edit when a legacy Exchange server cannot be recovered or was not uninstalled properly.
Before removing anything, I would recommend:
- Verify there are no remaining Exchange 2010 database references, public folder replicas, connectors, or mailbox objects still pointing to that server.
- Take a full backup of Active Directory and document the existing Exchange configuration.
- Confirm Exchange 2016 is functioning normally and that no services still reference the legacy server.
After those checks, cleaning up the obsolete Exchange 2010 server object and related references in ADSI Edit is typically cleaner than attempting to rebuild an Exchange 2010 server solely for removal. The ADSI Edit cleanup approach is also referenced in Exchange decommissioning guidance for orphaned server objects.
I hope this helps.
