I wanted to exercise the option to pay so that Microsoft would send me a replacement machine before I mailed the defective machine to Microsoft. The technician I spoke with a year ago, gave me telephone numbers to call, but the phone number is turned out to be a joke because I couldn't get through the system. I used both Claude Fable and chat gpt pro trying to figure out how to get through the Microsoft system, but neither they nor I could figure out how to make it work. They advised me to give up and to take satisfaction/solice from the fact that they eventually were able to get me to the point where Microsoft sent me an RMA label.
Cant get in touchn with support staff
In August 2025, Microsoft's own Surface Commercial Support advocate
([moderator's note: PII removed]) diagnosed a firmware/secure-boot failure on my Surface
Pro 10 and approved a free warranty repair under case
[moderator's note: PII removed]. Before it could be completed, he apparently left
the company, and the case simply went dead — no transfer, no
notification, nothing.
Nearly a year later, I tried to pick the case back up. The phone
support line (1-800-270-0615, listed as an official number on
Microsoft's own site) just loops back to a website. That website
redirects between at least three different account portals depending
on which one Microsoft's own autocomplete/cache decides to serve you
that day — including an old defunct business tenant I no longer have
access to, and a completely unrelated organizational admin page with
no connection to device service at all.
I eventually did get a new service order submitted (after a server
error mid-submission, an unrelated third-party repair shop's chat
trying to route me to a paid appointment, and well over an hour of
navigating dead ends) — but only for the free repair option. When I
tried to add the paid Advance Exchange option (~$140) so I wouldn't be
without a computer for over a week, the phone line sent me right back
to the same broken web loop.
For a company this size, the fact that a warranty case can simply
evaporate because one employee left, with zero continuity for the
customer, is unacceptable. The fact that phone support cannot resolve
this and instead redirects to a self-service site that itself
contradicts its own account routing is worse. The money I paid for a support contract seems like a theft via fraud.

It's too late now to continue pursuing the option I was seeking since I'm leaving in 2 days on a 10 day vacation now without a PC. I'll send the RMA package out tomorrow before I leave. Color me disgusted. I'll never trust Microsoft again.

2026-08-03T20:19:12.9+00:00 I am the administrator, but I cannot get help. The system keeps asking me for information. I don't have some type of number or some information I don't recognize, and I keep getting ejected from the system. The automation loop is enormously frustrating, and it feels like I am in a Franz Kafka novel. I wanted to speak with a human being, but Microsoft has apparently decided that the promise that was made to me when I purchased this support contract for access to human being support is not a promise Microsoft cares to honor.

Hi Marc Hankin,
I’m sorry you’ve had to spend so much time navigating different support pages, especially after the original repair had already been approved. I can understand how frustrating it must be to have the case left unresolved and then be unable to reach the appropriate support team.
Since this involves a Surface commercial device and a business support agreement, please review the official guidance here and use the support option that matches your organization: Contact Surface Support for Business and Education customers
The page provides access to the Surface Support Portal, where eligible business customers can create and track Surface service requests. It also lists separate support paths for customers with Premier or Unified Support contracts and for organizations managing devices through Intune.
If the previous case can no longer be continued, an administrator for your organization may need to create a new support request through the Microsoft 365 admin center: Get support through the Microsoft 365 admin center
When submitting the new request, include the previous case number, the new service order number, the approved warranty repair details and your request for the Advance Exchange option. This will give the commercial support team the context needed to review the available service options under your agreement.
If you have access to an active business account, please follow the steps above. If not, please let me know. Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Community members and moderators do not have access to commercial support records, warranty entitlements, service orders or internal case systems, so I cannot restore or transfer the previous case from here. Thank you so much for your understanding.
