I recently set up a new computer, a mac Air, and migrated everything from my old Air. I use Excel and Word. On my new Air I get a "this product is no longer supported" message when I try to use Excel and Word.

    Thanks Thomas.

Your office version is way outdated, to the point that Updater wouldn't be able to update it basically. It is a discontinued version. When a version is discontinued, it means updates won't be pushed to it, hence it doesn't update.

    Anyway, it is solvable.

What you need is to uninstall and reinstall.

The reason I asked where you purchased is because it determines how you reinstall.

If you signed up via Apple App Store, then download and install from the App Store.

If you signed up via Microsoft directly, please go to https://www.office.com

Sign into the Microsoft account you used for the subscription. Click on the 9-dot icon on the upper left > More apps.

Then on the upper right, click on "Install apps". This will now download the installer file. Once downloaded, click on the file to install. It will install the Desktop version of the apps for you then.

If for any odd reason it still doesn't work, download and run the updater https://support.microsoft.com/office/office-for-mac/troubleshoot-microsoft-autoupdate-in-microsoft-365-and-office-for-mac?apid=ets

Assuming that you have a Microsoft 365 Personal, Family or Premium subscription, you should be able to install the most recent Office for Mac via the update history page at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/update-history-office-for-mac .

Also, make sure that you have the most recent version of Microsoft AutoUpdate. There is a download available in the article for which Emily provided a link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/office-for-mac/troubleshoot-microsoft-autoupdate-in-microsoft-365-and-office-for-mac.
